About this Place
In the historic land of Mu’tah, the Maqam of Abdullah ibn Rawahah stands as a symbol of faith, courage, and sacrifice, offering visitors a spiritual journey through one of the most remarkable stories in Islamic history
Located in the town of Al-Mazar Al-Janoubi in Al-Karak Governorate, on the very land where one of the greatest battles in Islamic history took place, Maqam of Abdullah ibn Rawahah stands as one of Jordan’s most meaningful religious and historical landmarks.
The shrine is dedicated to the companion Abdullah ibn Rawahah, the third commander of the Muslim army during the Battle of Mu’tah in 629 AD. Known for his courage, eloquence, and deep faith, he was martyred on this land after carrying the Muslim banner in one of the most heroic moments in Islamic history.
The Maqam is part of the Al-Mazar Al-Janoubi area, which includes the shrines of the commanders of the Battle of Mu’tah. It is located only about 300 meters away from the shrines of Ja‘far ibn Abi Talib and Zayd ibn Harithah, giving visitors a unique opportunity to explore several spiritually and historically significant sites within the same area.
More than just a religious landmark, the shrine carries a powerful spiritual atmosphere where visitors can feel the connection between sacrifice, history, and faith. The peaceful surroundings and calm landscapes create a reflective and emotional experience unlike ordinary historical destinations.
The site is distinguished by its modern architectural design, following its reconstruction in 1997. Today, the complex includes the shrine of Abdullah ibn Rawahah, a cultural center, arcades, an Islamic school, a multi-purpose hall, a library, gardens, and tourist facilities that welcome visitors from Jordan and around the world.
The Maqam attracts visitors, researchers, and religious travelers seeking places with deep spiritual meaning and a living connection to Islamic history and heritage.
Beyond its religious importance, the surrounding area offers visitors the tranquil beauty of Al-Karak and the timeless atmosphere of the land where the events of Mu’tah once unfolded
